Learn more about COVID-19, Coronavirus:

This new virus causes respiratory illness with symptoms developing in an average of 5-6 days after infection. Most people infected have mild disease and recover. In more severe cases the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, and even death. People of all ages can be infected by the new coronavirus, but older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.

Symptoms can include:

  • Fever

  • Coughing

  • Sneezing and runny nose

  • Shortness of breath

  • Diarrhea

The symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as many as 14 days after exposure. Reported illnesses have ranged from people who show little to no symptoms to others who become severely ill and die. To help prevent the spread of the virus and protect yourself and those around you, follow the recommendations below:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or sleeve

  • Avoid touching your face

  • Stay home when you are sick and get lots of rest
